Connecticut Directors Credential

WHAT IS THE CONNECTICUT DIRECTOR'S CREDENTIAL?

As Connecticut continues to invest in early care and education programs and parents continue to seek quality care for their children, it is important that this field continue to explore and expand leadership opportunities and to promote the development of outcomes and competencies for directors of childcare programs. Research has tied program quality to director qualifications.

Through a unique collaboration among Charter Oak State College, Connecticut Charts-A-Course, the Department of Social Services, and the Hartford Area Child Care Collaborative, a conceptual framework for a Connecticut Director's Credential (CDC) has been developed. The Connecticut Director's Credential seeks to provide a voluntary system of credentialing with four levels of proficiency, issued through Charter Oak State College.

The CDC will be awarded to those who have successfully met all the requirements necessary to obtain the credential at each level. The Credential will acknowledge that as a professional working in the field of early care and education, you have obtained knowledge and competencies in the Connecticut Core Areas of Knowledge for Directors.
