How is the training in the Core Areas of Knowledge used?

All CT Charts-A-Course training in the Core Areas of Knowledge must be delivered by individuals who are CT Charts-A-Course approved trainers. Deployment of CT Charts-A-Course training in the Core Areas of Knowledge is done in a few ways:

  1. 1. Primarily the training in the Core Areas of Knowledge is delivered via the Training Program in Child Development (TPCD), a state-wide training program administered by CT Charts-A-Course (CCAC) and funded by the CT Department of Social Services (DSS). The Training Program in Child Development is designed to improve the quality of early care and education in Connecticut by facilitating access to non-credit training that focuses on child development and early childhood education theory and practice. Targeted participants are childcare providers in priority settings— DSS funded centers, Accreditation Facilitation Project (AFP) selected sites, School Readiness, Head Start, licensed family day care homes, and relative care providers. The TPCD agencies deliver a package of 85 CCAC approved trainings in the Core Areas of Knowledge totaling 154.5 hours of integrated training over eight competencies. Two agencies deliver the training in Spanish.
  2. CCAC approved trainers who are also Early Childhood Consultation Partnership (ECCP) (see http://www.clasp.org/ChildCareAndEarlyEducation/map030707ct.htm) consultants deliver the training in the Core Areas of Knowledge to early childhood providers who care for children from birth to age five in center-based child care programs.
  3. CCAC approved trainers may also deliver the training in the Core Areas of Knowledge on their own, as independent consultants hired by child care centers, family day care associations or other agencies and organizations.
