The AFP partners with Connecticut Association for the Education of Young Children to offer conferences to provide support and information on NAEYC Accreditation. Our most recent event was held at the Cromwell Crowne Plaza on September 27, 2008. Over 100 newly NAEYC accredited programs were honored. In October 2007 the Accreditation Conference featured two guest speakers from NAEYC: Kim Means, Associate Executive Director and Alan Simpson, Director of Marketting and Communications, as well as Representative Beth Bye and Hartford Courant Columnist Rick Green who discussed communication strategies and accreditation awareness. The first AFP sponsored Accreditation Conference in April 2006 featured Mark Ginsberg, NAEYC Executive Director, and kicked off Connecticut’s efforts to support programs seeking NAEYC Accreditation in the new system. Ginsberg announced that NAEYC would accept the CT Director Credential toward the Alternative Pathways to Achieve Educational Qualifications of a Program Administrator. The Accreditation Conference honored 45 programs that participated in the NAEYC pilot of the Assessor System. We learned many things from this pilot that informed NAEYC’s launch of the re-invented accreditation system which are summarized here.
