Scholarship Assistance Program Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy
Effective September 2008, the following Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy will be implemented by Connecticut Charts-Course for all recipients of the Scholarships Assistance Program. The purpose of this policy is to continue to help program staff to move along the career ladder as well as insure that all of the appropriate supports and resources are in place to help a program staff person feel academically successful.
Definition of Satisfactory Academic Progress:
- Completed credit-based course work with a passing grade., or,
- Dropped the course within the add/drop period of the institution, and,
- Maintain the minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement of the institution.
All CCAC Scholarship Assistance recipients will maintain satisfactory academic progress. Scholarship recipients that do not maintain satisfactory academic progress shall be subject to the following:
- Be contacted by a CCAC Career Advisor to determine why the scholarship recipient failed to maintain satisfactory academic progress and determine the possible additional support and interventions.
- Be told that should satisfactory academic progress not be achieved in the next semester, the scholarship recipient will be placed on scholarship probation . A CCAC. The Career Advisor will monitor scholarship recipient progress during the probationary period while they are on notice and act as a liaison to the CCAC Scholarship Assistance Office.
- If following the probationary period, the scholarship recipient does not achieve satisfactory academic progress, there is no further scholarship assistance shall be made available and the individual must appeal the process to CCAC and the scholarship team who reviews these requests.
- Appeals must be based on severe extenuating circumstances. Some examples are: e .g.
- Termination of employment
- Illness
- Hospitalization of the student scholarship recipient
- Providing care to ill member of the immediate family
- Death of a member of the immediate family
- Domestic violence problems
1 For purposes of this policy, scholarship probation is defined as the semester following the semester satisfactory academic progress was not maintained that the scholarship recipient is on notice that continued failure to meet satisfactory academic progress will disqualify the recipient eligibility for further scholarship assistance.
2 Scholarship team consists of Scholarship Assistance Manager, CCAC Career Counselor, and Department of Social Services representative.
